IntroductionMedication Usage

Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v is a local anaesthetic.
Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v is used for short-term anaesthesia of the ocular surface e.g. for tonometry, foreign body removal, suture removal, during surgery.
The active substance is proxymetacaine hydrochloride 5.0 mg/ml.
The other ingredients are benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, disodium edetate, sodium metabisulphite, water for injections.
Always use Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The usual dose is:
For anaesthesia one drop is instilled into the conjunctival sac. The duration of action can be prolonged to 60 minutes by instilling 1 drop every 5 to 10 minutes, up to a maximum total dosage of 7 drops.
Exclusively for topical use at the eye and in general only to be applied by a physician!
Eye drops should always be applied by avioding any contact of the tip with the eye or the skin of the face.
A long-term treatment with Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v is not recommended.
To avoid a possible systemic resorption, slightly press with a finger on the lacrimal duct for two to three minutes after application.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v after the expiry date which is stated on the label after EXP.
Store below 25°C.
Keep the container in the outer carton to protect the content from light.
Advice on the durability after first opening:
With proper care Provain-POS® Eye Drops 0.5% w/v can be used up to 4 weeks after first opening.
